Littoral • First Canadian Place • Toronto, Ontario
This project focuses on creating an exhibition space for Dia Art Foundation by creating specific zones within the First Canadian Place in Toronto as their site for installations along Toronto’s PATH system. Introducing specific zones reminiscent of ink blots allows the organisation an intervention into the space without interrupting the flow of traffic. These areas give floor space for sculptures as well as wall space for hangable art, providing a flexible display opportunity.
A bookstore and reading area provides a place to read and relax. The main aspect of Dia’s intervention in the space is the permanent installation of two mirrored panels, connecting the concourse level of the First Canadian Place with ground level through existing voids in the ground floor looking into the concourse level. These panels are meant to draw people into the PATH as one of them hangs over a performance space.
